ApoyoUNIMET is a student grouping from the Universidad Metropolitana that bases on the promotion of respect, defense and education of human rights, taking specific attention to rights related with education, citizen participation and the empowerment of young students in the exercise of their constitutional rights recognized also in international instruments. AU began as a result of an initiative from students and teachers from the UNIMET's Law School, which provided pro bono legal assistance to university students that had been deprived of liberty during the legitimate exercise of their civil and political rights, caused by arbitrary arrests carried out within the political protests of February 2014 and latter. Currently ApoyoUNIMET works as a scholar observatory of Human Rights, collecting and receiving denounces of violations to fundamental rights during pacifists protests, though it also works as a valuable link between teachers and students of the Law School.
