We are a religious order founded in the seventeenth century by St. Joseph Calasanz (1557 - 1648) and dedicated to evangelizing through education children and preferably poor youth, for which we consecrate ourselves with a fourth special vow. St. Joseph of Calasanz, declared in 1948 by Pope Pius XII "Universal Patron of all the Christian popular schools in the world", has the glory of having founded in 1597 the "first free public school in Europe". Proclaimed the right to education of all children, especially the poorest and most excluded, being pursued for this reason. But had a significant success in its purpose, he responded to the challenges and needs of his time. In 1617, he founded the Congregation of Pauline Poor Clerks Regular of the Mother of God of the Pious Schools (Paulina name comes from Pope Paul V who approved it), that Gregorio XV promoted the religious order in 1621 with the current name. Soon expanded throughout Italy and central Europe. It is currently spread across 4 continents (Europe, Asia, Africa and America). We are more than 1,300 religious. For over four centuries, the Piarists give ourselves the educational mission and, today, we continue offering all our efforts and resources to the integral formation of children, especially the most disadvantaged and the realization of the dreams and aspirations of youth. This mission did not perform alone, share it with over one hundred thousand lay men and women, and female and male religious congregations that form the great family Calasância. Today the Pious School is formed by the religious order and the laity / the fully sharing the Piarist charisma (mission, spirituality and community life).
