Project
This project aims to reduce social isolation in Portugal by creating opportunities for meaningful human connection and community engagement. Through inclusive activities such as social events, intergenerational exchanges, cultural workshops, and volunteering initiatives, the project brings together individuals who feel disconnected from society. It focuses on fostering a sense of belonging, strengthening social networks, and improving mental well-being among participants. By partnering with local organizations and engaging volunteers, the project seeks to build more connected, inclusive, and supportive communities.

Role

Project Activities

Week 1
Icebreaker community session: “Getting to Know You” games
Life storytelling circle (“memories from your life”)
Workshop: Understanding Loneliness and Well-being in Daily Life
Group agreement creation (safe space rules and expectations)
Buddy system matching for ongoing support
Week 2
Photo storytelling activity (“important moments of my life”)
Arts & crafts workshop (traditional handmade skills like embroidery, knitting, woodwork)
Cultural sharing session (regional traditions, festivals, family customs)
Music & sing-along session with traditional songs & group board games and social interaction time
Preparation of traditional recipes (e.g., local desserts, breads, preserves)
Week 3
Workshop on preserving local traditions and cultural heritage
Hands-on traditional activity session (e.g., cheese-making like Serra da Estrela cheese, bread baking, olive oil traditions, weaving)
Intergenerational workshop: elders teaching traditional skills to youth volunteers
Shared cooking/meal using traditional recipes
Discussion: “What traditions should we not lose?"l session (youth volunteers visiting and interacting)
Week 4
Reflection circle: sharing memories and project experience
Workshop: Passing down knowledge and staying socially active
Creation of a “community memory book” (stories, recipes, traditions collected)
Intergenerational showcase event (elderly teaching traditional skills)
Closing celebration with traditional food, music, and storytelling
