The project aims to contribute to SDG #8 by enhancing the capacity of local communities to build a promote sustainable local tourism activities that bring revenue and boost employavility in the region.

Role

Project Activities

Week 1
Introductory session with the beneficiaries, presentation of the volunteers and project objectives.
Engage with the local residents in order to gain insights into the community perspectives that go beyond the typical tourist attractions
Introduction to Northern Province tourism & community based tourism concepts
Onboarding space with partner representatives to understand the current scenario, beneficiaries and discuss about the outcome of the project
Week 2
Workshop: Identifying potential tourism experiences (heritage, food, crafts, nature)
Map out the undervalued tourist attractions in the visited cities and develop comprehensive
Field orientation - understanding Jaffna/Kilinochchi cultural & historical background
Travel to nearby cities and visits to local realities, rather than the stereotypical tourist sights.
Week 3
Storytelling session – documenting oral histories & local narratives
Engaging with local leaders, youth & entrepreneurs – best practices
Field visits - interact with selected communities, gather stories & traditions
Hold workshops in different regions or cities to empower local businesses and communities across multiple areas.
Workshop on sustainable tourism models & cultural preservation
Week 4
Encourage collaboration between local businesses and community members to create a unified tourism promotion strategy.
Introduction to designing tourism experiences (homestays, tours, workshops)
Knowledge-sharing event – interactive session with local youth & entrepreneurs
Debrief the impact of the project, how the beneficiaries developed, discuss about what went well and even better if and include this in the report
Closing day with beneficiaries
