The project aims to contribute to SDG #4 by providing and opening space for quality education for people of all ages, ensuring educational opportunities from initial literacy to other subjects such as mathematics, science and languages.

Role

Project Activities

Week 1
Training in understanding your learners, effective classroom management, cultural sensitivity, and strategies for student engagement.
Training in Lesson Planning and Student Assessment.
Training in innovative approaches to teaching grammar and vocabulary. • Communication skills workshop – interacting with students, using basic Sinhala phrases for rapport.
Training in activity-based language teaching (ABLT)
Welcome session, college tour, meet the staff & students, introduction to Cambridge curriculum / Introduction to Cambridge exam components & institute policies.
Week 2
Assist teachers in English lessons (small group activities, reading practice, role plays). • Support students in guided writing & vocabulary-building tasks. • Daily reflection sessions with supervising teachers.
Week 3
Speaking fluency practice – interviews, presentations, conversational games.
Interactive speaking sessions – role plays, debates, storytelling, group discussions.
Reflection session – feedback on student progress & strategies to build confidence.
Listening comprehension workshops – audio activities, songs, short videos with Q&A.
Week 4
Team debriefs – feedback from students & staff, adapting workshops for better impact.
Plan and deliver workshops (creative writing, public speaking, storytelling, etc.).
Cultural exchange sessions – music, food, clothes, games, presentations about volunteer’s country.
