The project aims to contribute to SDG #8 by enhancing the capacity of local communities to build a promote sustainable local tourism activities that bring revenue and boost employavility in the region.

Role

Project Activities

Week 1
Create an implementation plan on how the project should unfold and determine materials to be used
Run the initial assessment needed for measuring the outcome/impact of the project
Introductory session with the beneficiaries, presentation of the volunteers and project objectives.
Onboarding space with partner representatives to understand the current scenario, beneficiaries and discuss about the outcome of the project
Conduct a social media workshop for the Opportunity Provider to help promote their work and local tourism initiatives.
Engage with children in the Oluboduwawa village.
Explore the city of Colombo
Preparing the activities that will be done in the following weeks and receiving feedback from the partners and AIESEC
Week 2
Explore nature and wildlife at Kodigaha Kanda Sanctuary and try rock climbing
Travel to nearby cities and visits to local realities, rather than the stereotypical tourist sights.
Create promotional content to highlight the area's tourism potential and the opportunity provider’s role
Engage with children in the Oluboduwawa village.
Plan and deliver a small local attraction campaign to promote the workshops and activities to be run in week 3 and 4. You can use mouth to mouth promotion and visit local business to directly invite people.
Map out the undervalued tourist attractions in the visited cities and develop comprehensive plans to enhance visibility, improve experiences, and promote sustainable tourism.
Week 3
Workshops: Creating an strategy for your local business.
Visit traditional art and cultural sites like Olaboduwa Dancing & Mask Center.
Create promotional content to highlight the area's tourism potential and the opportunity provider’s role
Engage with children in the Oluboduwawa village.
Workshop: introducing the principles of sustainable tourism, discussing its importance and benefits for local communities.
Workshop: Leveraging social media and online platforms for tourism growth
Week 4
Plan virtual campaign to promote the places of value you map out at the begging of the project. The objective is to put those places on the map of local and international tourist.
Develop a shared marketing toolkit that can be used to promote attractions
Encourage collaboration between local businesses and community members to create a unified tourism promotion strategy.
Engage with children in the Oluboduwawa village.
Create promotional content to highlight the area's tourism potential and the opportunity provider’s role
Tour Moragahahena Che Garden and the Kananvila Fruit & Horticulture Farm.
Week 5
Engage with children in the Oluboduwawa village.
Create promotional content to highlight the area's tourism potential and the opportunity provider’s role
Discover historical sites such as Uyanwaththa Wewa, Pathahawaththa Rajamaha Viharaya, and Pokunuvita Kithsirimewan Rajamahaviharaya.
Run a virtual campaign to promote the places of value.
Map and reach out to stakeholders that can help and/or invest on local tourism and present your main findings.
Create an action plan with the beneficiaries in order to continue the strategies created during the project
Week 6
Debrief the impact of the project, how the beneficiaries developed, discuss about what went well and even better if and include this in the report
Explore the city of Galle
Collect data from beneficiaries (you can use surveys, interviews, focus groups, etc.)
Analyse data to determinate outcome/impact results (level of awareness of beneficiaries post-project activities).
Build final project report and presented to AIESEC members and NGO/non-profit representatives.
Closing day with beneficiaries
Engage with children in the Oluboduwawa village.
