Project
The project aims to impact SDG #15 by building up communities' capacity to respond and act upon the degradation of natural habitat, diversity loss, and the protection of wildlife.

Life On Land - Target 15.5

Take urgent and significant action to reduce the degradation of natural habitats, halt the loss of biodiversity and, by 2020, protect and prevent the extinction of threatened species.

Project Activities

  • Week 1
    Define the materials for the care and establishment of the community garden.
    Preparation of material and workshop session for the following weeks.
    Field trip in the area to analyse degradation of natural habitats and main issues with the local ecosystem and endangered species.
    Onboarding space with partner representative to understand the context and urgent needs of the area regarding land and local ecosystem pollution.
    Determine method and material for outcome measurement data gathering.
  • Week 2
    Workshop: SDG 15 and the negative impact of of natural habitat degradation and loss of biodiversity for the future.
    Game: Scavenger hunt to find the signs of degradation in the habitat
    Introductory session with the beneficiaries, presentation of the volunteers and project objectives.
    Activity: Mapping out the root causes of habitat degradation with community members
    Round table: Watching documentaries about ecosystem and debating the topic of what can humans do to prevent ecosystems degradation
    Practical care and management of the community garden.
  • Week 3
    Round table: invite elders from the area/community to share their experience/stories of how the area looked in the past
    Practical care and management of the community garden.
    Workshop: How to take care of the place we're living in (our ecosystem)?
    Activity: Create an accountability system in the community for the conservation of nature around them
    Run a local event on the NGO/school to launch the accountability system and strive to have a local representative leader signing the commitment.
  • Week 4
    Fieldwork: run activities in animal rescue centers
    Activity: Species ambassadors to protect the endangered species of the area/region
    Activity: Run a challenge/competition within participant to make lifestyle choices that are less harmful to endangered species
    Workshop: How to protect endangered species?
    Practical care and management of the community garden.
  • Week 5
    Activity: Run a fundraising campaign for the protection of a specific endangered specie or natural habitat
    Create a short film about a species or degradation in the region
    Activity: Run a podcast "The Voice of [x]". To give a voice to endangered species.
    Build a system to measure impact of initiatives created during the project
    Practical care and management of the community garden.
    Teach the community how to grow and cultivate organic food at home.
  • Week 6
    Build final project report and presented to AIESEC members and NGO/non-profit representatives.
    Analyse data to determinate outcome results.
    Collect data from project beneficiaries (you can use surveys, interviews, focus groups, etc.)
    Nature conservation presentation by NGO/conservation group.
    Practical care and management of the community garden.
