About SHR Timber research
SHR is a test institute specialized to assess wood products (panels, engineered wood like LVL, glulam, finger jointed timber, façade cladding), bio-based materials and a wider range of products, such as glue, paint, window frames and doors used in construction. Additionally, research is also carried out i.e. glue recovery of recycled panels and analysis of several properties of thermally as well as chemically modified wood. The tests are carried out following European norms or Dutch standards and test protocols. SHR is also a knowledge centre on wood, where lectures are given, advice of wood construction, inspection of building malfunctions to determine the cause of the problem and provide guidance how to repair.
Role
Responsibilities
The two main subjects of the internship are:
1) Measurements of acetyl content in Accoya after various cycles of weathering to determine the remaining acetyl content and correlated it to time and number of cylces.
2) Determination of moisture in Accoya samples over time to correlated it to the acetyl content.
Analysis of the results, and giving input in subsequent research activities
Besides these two subjects the intern will participate and assist in daily testing activities of SHR in order to get a broad view of many aspects involved in the using biobased materials in buildings.
