Responsibilities

CFD Analysis of Open Horizontal Axis Ocean Current Turbine:

  • Set up computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulations for an open horizontal axis ocean current turbine.
  • Define the geometry and boundary conditions of the turbine model.
  • Simulate the flow field around the turbine to understand its performance characteristics without a diffuser.

Introduction of Diffusers with Different Shapes and Sizes:

  • Design diffusers of various shapes and sizes suitable for horizontal axis ocean current turbines.
  • Integrate diffusers into the CFD model.
  • Conduct CFD simulations to observe how different diffuser configurations affect the flow field around the turbine.

Optimization of Diffuser Geometric Parameters:

  • Identify key geometric parameters of the diffuser design, such as shape, size, angle, and inlet/outlet configurations.
  • Define optimization objectives, which may include maximizing inlet flow velocity or improving turbine efficiency.
  • Use CFD tools to iteratively optimize diffuser parameters, possibly through methods like parameter sweeps, design of experiments (DOE), or genetic algorithms.
  • Analyze the results to determine the most effective diffuser configuration for enhancing the performance of the horizontal axis ocean current turbine.
