Starting an Alumni Association
If you would like to start an AIESEC Alumni Association you are welcome to do so. The first step we encourage you to take is to get in contact with AIESEC in your country and work with them on designing the structure.As a second step, we encourage you to follow the Alumni Association Principles (you can find them below), which AIESEC has officially adopted. The purpose of having principles which guide interaction between AIESEC and alumni associations is to ensure that activities of these bodies strengthen AIESEC for mutual benefit
Alumni Association Principles
These simple principles lay out the way in which AIESEC would like to cooperate with AIESEC alumni associations all over the world to generate mutual benefit for both AIESEC members and AIESEC alumni. AIESEC recognizes the immense potential of a strong global network of alumni, which reinforces AIESEC’s global brand , provides diverse services to alumni , and keeps close links of cooperation with AIESEC.It is AIESEC’s desire and firm commitment to foster mutual cooperation to the best of our ability to provide a truly global platform for life to anyone who has been a member of AIESEC.
- Strengthening the AIESEC way AIESEC alumni associations recognize and engage in activities that are aligned with the AIESEC Way.
- Strengthening AIESEC’s brand
AIESEC alumni associations actively support the AIESEC brand by following the legal obligations with regards to the use of the AIESEC trademark.
As per section 5.10 of the International Compendium, Member Committees are responsible for the appropriate use of the trademark in their country/territory. Specifically paragraph 5.10.8: "All AIESEC entities that have a license permission to use the AIESEC trademark have the right to give usage permission of such to external entities within their geographical area of responsibility. By giving this permission, they also have the responsibility to ensure that it is used in the proper way."
AIESEC alumni associations thus have to seek permission from the Member Committee of a given country/territory to set up and register the association. If an AIESEC alumni association decides to organize publicly announced events in a country/territory other than the one it is registered in, it will equally have to inform the Member Committee of said activities.
Benefits from and objectives of this approach are the strengthening of the AIESEC brand for the mutual benefit of AIESEC and AIESEC alumni. - Recognition and implementation of AIESEC’s Code of Ethics AIESEC alumni associations actively work with the code of ethics implemented by AIESEC (viewing the code of ethics requires MyAIESEC.net login)
- Mutual representation in boards In order to foster deep cooperation and collaboration between AIESEC and alumni associations, Member Committees should have representation in the steering and decision making body of the alumni association, while alumni associations should have their own representative in the advisory/supervisory board of the given AIESEC Member Committee. Please note that the principles as they stand today do not include guidelines about how alumni associations should be established and registered in different countries. This is a topic that each alumni association and AIESEC in the relevant country/territory will have to work out based on national legislation.
